A small Central Illinois town with a large place in history.

Mt. Pulaski combines a historic town square, Abraham Lincoln’s legal legacy, local landmarks, parks, murals, and community traditions that have carried forward for generations.

Our story

From the 1830s forward

Mt. Pulaski was founded in 1836 and named for Revolutionary War Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski. Its history reaches from early settlement and Abraham Lincoln’s circuit-law years through railroads, schools, local industry, agriculture, civic organizations, and long-running community celebrations.

1836

1848–1855

Mt. Pulaski served as the Logan County seat while Abraham Lincoln traveled the 8th Judicial Circuit and practiced law here.

1857–1877

The courthouse serves again

After the county seat moved, the former courthouse took on another community role as a schoolhouse before later serving other public uses.
